Seclusion / Restraint Guidelines (March 2007)

At its meeting on March 13, 2007, the State Board of Education adopted the following Guidelines for the use of seclusion rooms or restraint for children with disabilities.  School districts are encouraged to adhere to these guidelines, as a matter of best practice.

The guidelines include certain reporting requirements in Guideline No. 5.  Further directions will be issued in the near future to assist in providing this information.

Finally, a Task Force of interested parties has been developing administrative policies and guidelines on these same topics and its recommendations will be passed along when they are finalized.
